This is also the reason why people are still on this subject. This important migration of internet dialup started in 2000 in the United Kingdom. Large businesses had had dedicated high speed access for a number of years beforehand. However, for small businesses, the lure of reasonably priced high speed connects that were becoming increasingly cost-effective was undeniable. The options for homes and smaller businesses were quite limited at the time, because there was only sporadic broadband coverage available. In order for homes and small businesses to get connections that were high speed, they had to be in particular areas of the country. All this seemed to change toward the end of 2000 when British Telecom came to the table with DSL products. Although British Telecom retained the rights for the DSL products, a wholesale program opened and this allowed other Internet Service Providers to resell British Telecom’s DSL products. With these systems British Telecom was able to leverage the sales and prop its products by way of BT’s reseller partners. This approach proved effective by means of equalizing the broadband demand with whatever supply was present in the United Kingdom marketplace. Technical and Commercial issues have altered the way the market operated a few years ago. Bandwidth in the wholesale has become considerably cheaper because of technology advances. In addition, the prices of the DSL bandwidth have dropped. As LLU (Local Loop Unbundling) got into full swing, Internet Service Providers have the go ahead to install equipment in the local British Telecom infrastructure. This is considered a new freedom, and now 24Mbps DSL speeds are achievable. The availability of these Local Loop Unbundling services is intermittent and obtainable around large towns and cities. Broadband penetration continues to increase every year in the United Kingdom. As this demand continues, so do broadband providers. Increased capacity and increased supply means increased competition. Supplying these broadband services, for many can be profitable. The broadband demand is still expanding as is the importance of the internet in the lives of people and businesses. The DSL broadband supply is growing and developing rapidly, and it is more and more turning into a market for buyers. In addition, a migration code makes the customer’s life much easier, because they are able to switch providers if they are not satisfied with the package or the service provided by the existing provider.
